New York is where the work gets capitalized. It’s where I co-founded and built Forward Horizon Group, a veteran-led advisory firm for clients who needed the field put in terms a term sheet could hold, and where an earlier chapter in threat intelligence taught me to write for people who act on what they read. The city holds the network: investors, operators, and national-security professionals who move between boardrooms and briefings without changing register.

My doctoral research at King’s College London, Innovation Under Fire, sits at the center of it, alongside the Cambridge Security Initiative and a UK and European defense-technology community that takes wartime evidence seriously. The discipline here is the opposite of the field’s: slow reading, contested claims, footnotes over adjectives. The two need each other, and London is where I make them meet.

I work with the Taiwan technology and manufacturing ecosystem (the fabs, the drone makers, the civil-defense thinkers) and with an Indo-Pacific security community that studies Kyiv the way staff colleges once studied earlier wars. The through-line from the Black Sea to the Strait is a supply chain and a doctrine, and it’s held together by relationships I keep up in person.

The education came in layers around it: international relations at Columbia with a Gilman year of Mandarin at Peking University, cybersecurity strategy at NYU, international business at Fletcher. The service taught me what technology means when it has to work. The study taught me how to say so precisely.
